What is a ceramic coating?

If you do a search on the internet you will get millions of hits from different articles trying to sell you on benefits of a ceramic coating. A lot of articles citing that it’s the ultimate form of paint protection, it’s an SIO2 based product that protects your vehicle for years to come, and even in some scenarios it implies that ceramic coatings protect your car from light scratches and rock chips. While some of the information out there is factual, anything with too much information can be very confusing. So what is actually true?

Keep it simple

To be honest we don’t want to waste your time. Time is very valuable so for the sake of time we are going to keep it as simple as possible so you can make the best decision possible. So here it is. A ceramic coating is is a protective layer that bonds to a vehicle’s paint that provides long term good looks with ease of maintenance.

Long Term Good Looks

A ceramic coating creates a thin layer of polymer that provides many benefits that will keep your car’s paint looking newer longer. Here’s some benefits that it provides:

  • Longterm UV Protection

Sunscreen for your paint! Keeps the paint from being oxidized and creating that dulled look over time!

  • Paint Protection from Harsh Chemicals and Contaminants

The road can be a merciless place for your vehicle. Ceramic coatings provide paint protection from harsh chemicals and contaminants like tar, bird droppings, tree sap, etc.

  • Depth and Gloss

A new level of depth and gloss will be brought to your paint that will be recognizable to even the untrained eye.

Ease of Maintenance

While a ceramic coating provides long term good looks it also helps with ease of maintenance.

  • Unbeatable Hydrophobic Properties

Water literally won’t stick to it!

  • A New Slick Finish

Paint will be significantly smoother allowing light debris to slip off! Also, it feel so smooth that you can rub your face on it! (We do not suggest this)

  • Long Term Durability

Depending on the ceramic coating, it can last anywhere from 1 year to 9 years freeing you every season from applying wax or sealants!

Common Myths around Ceramic Coatings

There is a lot of speculation around ceramic coatings, but one thing is for certain and that is that it’s an excellent way to protect your vehicle for the long run. Below there are a few common myths about ceramic coatings:

  • False! The only item on the market as of 2023 that protects your car’s paint from rock chips are paint protection film, but even that product has its limits!

  • Nope! Only Paint Protection Film can do that!

  • Coatings do need to be maintained properly. Sadly, manufacturers “Durability claims” are usually only when maintained properly and in a controlled environment. So when it says “9-years” That’s only in a perfect world and if you maintain it properly. Lucky for us it’s easy to maintain! It’s as simple as the methods you use and the products you choose!

  • No this is 100% false. A ceramic coating’s job is to protect the clear coat as the clear coats job is to protect the paint underneath!

Have some questions? Hopefully these will answer them! If not feel free to contact us!

  • If you have access to a garage that your car can fit in yes! Ceramic coatings need a proper place to cure. Also, controlled temperature would be preferred but it is more important that your car does not touch water for the first 48 hours. Your newly coated vehicle should also not to be washed (Intentionally) for the first 30 days in most cases.

  • Currently, we do not have a commercial garage that we can advertise for this service at the moment. We are however renting out a space that can do jobs on a smaller scale. So just ask us in person and we can definitely work something out!

  • The process is pretty long as the car must go through decontamination, paint correction, and the coating process. It will probably take up to 3-4 days depending on how big the vehicle is. On a side note that 3-4 days also includes storage time!

  • Prices vary! This all depends on the size, condition of your vehicles, and the materials it’s made of. We do have estimated pricing listed throughout our website. They say estimates, but they usually run true unless there is something out of the ordinary.
